Canberra real estate professionals recognised for professionalism and adaptability amidst industry’s biggest regulatory change

Canberra, ACT – The ACT’s peak real estate body, the Real Estate Institute of the ACT (REIACT) awarded more than 30 outstanding professionals and businesses from across Canberra’s real estate sector at its annual Awards for Excellence, recognising their achievements, innovation and contribution to clients, communities and the broader ACT property market.

This comes amidst challenging market conditions and the industry facing one of its most significant regulatory changes this year, the tranche 2 of the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing (AML/CTF) reforms, highlighting its commitment to help the government’s fight against money laundering.

This year’s REIACT Awards for Excellence, held on 22nd August at the National Convention Centre Canberra, marked its 32nd year of bringing together 400 professionals across the residential, commercial, property management, sales and strata. The Awards aim to celebrate and recognise achievements, professionalism and innovative practices in the ACT’s real estate profession.

Speaking at the Gala Dinner, REIACT President Chris Wilson emphasised the significance of the REIACT Awards extends well beyond celebrating individual and agency successes, the event also highlights the importance of safeguarding the reputation of the real estate profession.

“Professionalism, ethics and consumer trust matter. We should be proud of the work we do, but we also have a responsibility to continually demonstrate the value that good real estate professionals bring to their clients and to the wider community.”

REIACT CEO Maria Edwards, in her opening speech, said the REIACT Awards also showcased how the industry continues to evolve.

“We’ve dealt with a slower market, increasing compliance obligations, rising business costs and clients who, understandably, are feeling the pressure of the cost of living. There are plenty of things our industry cannot control, but somehow we often end up standing at the front line dealing with them.

“But what continues to impress me is the way this industry adapts, keeps turning up and continues to do the work.”
