Stamp Duty: It's time to Axe the Tax.

Australia’s Real Estate Institutes have decided it’s time to ‘Axe the Tax’, take this case to governments and start a national conversation in earnest with the end game of phasing out stamp duty with the aim to allow more Australians to access the possibility to buy their first home and homeowners to buy and sell more freely.

Getting rid of stamp duty would kick-start the economy, open up opportunity for Australian’s to move more frequently and improve both housing supply and affordability.

Do you know what stamp duty costs?
-24-40% of State Government revenues
-4 years of additional saving for aspiring homeowners (on top of the deposit!)
-$40,000 in Sydney and $55,000 in Melbourne, equal to half the average annual earnings*

* based on current median house price.
