In an interview with Canberra Times following the release of the 2026-27 ACT Budget, REIACT CEO Maria Edwards said the Institute welcomes the removal of stamp duty for first home buyers noting that this will help stimulate the economy given ACT’s first-time buyer cohort. However, Maria expressed her disappointment in the lack of incentives for investors, pointing out that the continued pressure on them will result in the decreased availability of rental properties in the Territory.

In a recent interview with ABC Canberra, REIACT CEO Maria Edwards warned that there’s “not enough diversity” in the homes being approved in the ACT. With one-bedroom units already common in the ACT, Maria said building bigger two- and three-bedroom apartments and townhouses would be a better solution to its supply problem and provide more choices for people.
